Sport, music and events revitalize the historic center

From March 19, the evening proposals are set to begin, scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday. “So, a safer city”

From running to concerts, from aerobics to children's readings, to street performances. The historic center “wakes up“ and schedules two months of evening events, embracing the equation that a lived-in place is a safer place. Indeed, the set of appointments presented by Mayor Giacomo Possamai and four of his councilors is the response the administration has decided to implement following the escalation of assaults and thefts that have hit the heart of the city in recent weeks and the resulting security alarm. All this with the idea that preventing degradation is a game played on two levels, that of controls and order, on one hand, and that of revitalizing urban spaces, on the other.
A recipe that has also emerged in the recent meetings of the committee for public order and safety and that as of yesterday has materialized into a calendar of events divided into three themes (sports, music, and families) that will animate the center from Tuesday to Thursday. A "awakening," entitled "It's spring," by the Municipality will start on March 19, although the first (sports) events are expected as early as next week. Every Tuesday evening, as explained by the sports councilor, Leone Zilio, the center will turn into an "open-air gym," thanks to the involvement of associations that have already ensured their presence to the Municipality.
The choice of activities to practice will be wide: from running to urban trekking, from boxing to aerobic workouts, up to a circuit for bikes. "It starts on March 12 and each activity - continues Zilio - involves 'adopting' a bar to conclude the evening." From physical exercise to music. Wednesday will be concert day. Presenting the program is Cristina Balbi, councilor for economic development. "The central day of the week will be dedicated to concerts in the premises realized with the collaboration of Confcommercio Vicenza (present with President Nicola Piccolo, editor's note). That evening, moreover, the exhibition "Pop Beat" in the Palladian Basilica will be open exceptionally until 10 p.m., to give another excellent reason to spend the evening in the center." The musical moments in the outdoor areas will also be realized with the support of the Municipality, which has allocated a budget of at least 20 thousand euros for the entire calendar of proposals. And then there's Thursday, family day. From 6 p.m., Piazza dei Signori will host a participatory library, with read alouds. "An initiative designed by the association ExvUoto Teatro - explains the councilor for culture, Ilaria Fantin -. And after the readings, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., we will encourage the presence of street artists."
A series of events characterized by continuity aimed at "bringing people to experience the center," emphasized the councilor for youth policies, Leonardo Nicolai. "It will be a test to see if citizens respond - concludes the mayor - and if the response is positive, we can consider making these events stable, which would mean having an important security presence in the city."
