The biggest night of the showbiz year has come and gone in a flurry of sequins, dresses, skits and one liners. This year’s Oscars was relatively tamed by the standards of previous years, but non the less Hollywood’s glitzy do still show how an awards ceremony should be done: with a consummate host, strong performances, style and actual good jokes. The Italian fashion scene took home the Oscars by storm, proving once again that when it comes to style, Italy reigns supreme.
Here’s my roundup of who stood out amid a sea of elegant style: America Ferrera in dazzling Versace, Colman Domingo in regal Louis Vuitton and Anya Taylor-Joy in heritage-inspired Dior. The red carpet's most outstanding looks were steeped in stunning details. Among the night’s biggest fashion surprises was Margot Robbie, not in her now-trademark pink. She donned a beautifully black sculpted Versace gown whereas it was America Ferrera who embraced Barbie’s signature color in a stunning pretty in pink chainmail dress, also by Versace.

In the Barbie pink versus black color clash, it was “Black is Back dress” that ruled the 2024 red carpet: some were sleek and simple like the Dolce & Gabbana gown worn by Jamie Lee Curtis or the Armani’s two in one floral pink and black dress of Zendaya. As always black did its magic and saved the day.
What’s my verdict on the red carpet looks? Well, this year for me the boys made their presence felt, sometimes over-the-top and grand, and occasionally just simply dazzling.
The order of the day for the season’s most prestigious event was the men! and what kind of men nearly all dressed in traditional tuxedos in all forms and sizes so chic !
Like everyone I took the opportunity to marvel at John Cena’s amazing chiseled abs, but the wrestler went the whole hog (as it were) to present an award with nothing except an oversized envelope covering his manhood, before pulling on a Roman emperor-style toga to deliver the award.

Un-dressed in his biceps and only his Birkenstocks, (the heritage German brand that was recently bought out by one of the big fashion four LMVH), lucky them a great piece of exposure in all sense of the word, John pulled it off!
And my winner is “Ken”, or really Ryan Gosling: he arrived on the red carpet in a suit that was not nearly as bright, but no less dazzling. The black jacket and shirt of Gosling’s custom single-breasted suit by Gucci were both hand-embroidered with metallic trim and paired with matching trousers and patent-leather shoes all by the Italian label Gucci.
They say Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, well maybe the Ladies do to!
Italy may have missed adding another Oscar to its repertoire this year, but there's no denying that they once again set the gold standard for red carpet fashion. The Italian designers adorned the best-dressed list, proving that even without the trophy, when it comes to dressing celebrities, they are always a cut above the rest!
