Six people with mild poisoning is the toll of the fire that broke out in a flat at number 47 of a five-story building on Via Piccoli. After 7 p.m., the firefighters intervened to tame the flames that erupted from a laundry room on the third floor, where a young couple lives. An operation that lasted until late at night to allow checks on the habitability of the housing unit affected and those nearby. According to the reconstruction, one of the two tenants of the flat would have been the first to raise the alarm. The man, who was sleeping, was awakened by the smoke that invaded all the rooms. He immediately fled to the exit of the condominium to safety and raised the alarm. The firefighters arrived on the scene with four vehicles, including fire trucks and ladder trucks, coming from the nearby command on Via Farini.
The firefighters immediately went to work to extinguish the fire, managing to contain it and thus preventing it from spreading to the rest of the house. The flames, as testified by residents and passersby, flared up violently and high outside the windows. Two police patrols and ambulances from Suem 118 also intervened on the spot, transporting six people intoxicated by smoke to San Bortolo Hospital, two in yellow code, two in green, and two in white. The fumes also affected adjacent apartments, especially the one on the fourth floor, hit by smoke coming out of the windows. The flames, which seriously damaged the ceiling of the laundry room on the third floor, involving pots and beams, also compromised the corresponding room on the upper floor.
The causes of the fire are still unknown, although the initial checks by the firefighters focused on a dryer that was in operation when fire broke out. 'I was out of the house, my partner warned me, and now I don't know if we can go back,' said the worried tenant on the third floor. 'I saw my neighbor running down terrified and asking for help,' said a woman who lives on the first floor, while from the courtyard, she watched the final operations. 'In my case, I don't think there are any obstacles to returning home, but I'll wait.' After securing the areas affected by the fire, the firefighters began checking the usability of the premises and therefore the possibility for residents to return to their apartments. The six poisoned individuals were taken care of by medical personnel and underwent tests to check for possible carbon monoxide damage. In the operation, a cat and a hamster were also rescued.
